Heavy Rain Warning - Orange Area: Marlborough south of Blenheim and Canterbury about and north of Lake Sumner, excluding the area under a Red Heavy Rain Warning Forecast: Expect a further 170 to 200 mm of rain. During the same period 60 to 100 mm is likely in areas near the coast. Peak rates of 15 to 25 mm/h expected tonight through to Tuesday afternoon, especially about the ranges. Freezing level about 1600 metres and snow likely above 1200 metres. Impact: Dangerous river conditions, flooding, and slips likely. Dangerous driving conditions and road closures are expected. Chance of upgrading to a Red Warning: High. Impact: Action: Do not enter floodwaters and avoid unnecessary travel. Be ready for communication and power outages. Be prepared to self-evacuate if you see rising water.
