Heat Advisory issued July 4 at 1:40PM CDT until July 4 at 8:00PM CDT by NWS Little Rock AR * WHAT...For the first Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 106. For the second Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 107 expected. * WHERE...Portions of central, eastern, and southeast Arkansas. * WHEN...For the first Heat Advisory, until 8 PM CDT this evening. For the second Heat Advisory, from 9 AM to 8 PM CDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Special Weather Statement issued July 4 at 2:36PM CDT by NWS Little Rock AR At 236 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Williams Junction, or 8 miles south of Perryville, moving southeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Wye Mountain... Williams Junction... Pinnacle Mountain State Park... Antioch in Perry County... Long Mountain... Paron... Thornburg... Bland... Reform... Oak Grove in Perry County... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. To report severe weather, contact your nearest law enforcement agency. They will relay your report to the National Weather Service office in Little Rock.
