Spring River above Baxter Springs affecting Cherokee County. For the Spring River...including Baxter Springs...Minor flooding is forecast. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Spring River above Baxter Springs. * WHEN...From this morning to late tomorrow morning. * IMPACTS...At 16.0 feet, The south end of Kiwanis Park floods. Water crosses Mickey Mantle Blvd in the park. Water level rises to the flag pole on the north side of the park. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 9:30 AM CDT Monday the stage was 14.8 feet. - Bankfull stage is 12.0 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 9:30 AM CDT Monday was 14.8 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 17.5 feet this evening. Flood Watch issued June 8 at 1:34PM CDT until June 9 at 7:00AM CDT by NWS Springfield MO * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of southeast Kansas, including the following areas, Bourbon, Cherokee and Crawford and Missouri, including the following areas, Barry, Barton, Benton, Camden, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Douglas, Greene, Hickory, Jasper, Laclede, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Ozark, Polk, St. Clair, Stone, Taney, Vernon, Webster and Wright. * WHEN...Through Tuesday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Another round of showers and thunderstorms expected tonight. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 313 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. - This includes the following low water crossings... Lost Creek at Highway CC, High School Branch at McCord Street, Hickory Creek at Coler RD, Buffalo Creek at Finch Drive and North Indian Creek at Orchid Drive. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Joplin, Pittsburg, Carthage, Neosho, Fort Scott, Baxter Springs, Columbus, Girard, Webb City, Carl Junction, Frontenac, Galena, Seneca, Granby, Carterville, Duquesne, Arma, Goodman, Duenweg, Diamond, Cherokee, Wheaton, Weir, Leawood, Silver Creek, Mulberry, Scammon, Mccune, Fairview, Shoal Creek Drive, Arcadia, Saginaw, Walnut, West Mineral, Treece, Hepler, Loma Linda, Airport Drive, Lowell and Sherman. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads.
