For the Extreme Heat Watch, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 112 possible. * WHERE...DC and portions of central, north central, northeast, northern, and southern Maryland, and central, northern, and northwest Virginia. * WHEN...For the Heat Advisory, from 11 AM this morning to 8 PM EDT this evening. For the Extreme Heat Watch, from Thursday morning through Friday evening. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Dangerous heat may linger into Saturday. Prolonged extreme heat could impact power, water, and transportation systems. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Look before you lock. Never leave anyone unattended in a vehicle as temperatures can reach lethal levels in a matter of minutes during extreme heat. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke, call 9 1 1.

Coastal Flood Advisory issued July 1 at 5:15AM EDT until July 1 at 9:00AM EDT by NWS Baltimore MD/Washington DC * WHAT...Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level in low lying areas due to tidal flooding. * WHERE...Shoreline in Anne Arundel County. * WHEN...Until 9 AM EDT this morning, especially around the time of high tide. * IMPACTS...At 2.6 feet, water may begin to pond in the parking lot at Annapolis City Dock, and surround the Alex Haley Memorial. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Tides between one half foot and one foot above normal. The next high tide at Annapolis U.S. Naval Academy is at 7:05 AM and 6:59 PM. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
