Tallahala Creek At Laurel affecting Jones County. * WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Tallahala Creek at Laurel. * WHEN...Until Wednesday evening. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 9:30 AM CDT Saturday the stage was 10.1 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage this evening to a crest of 15.5 feet tomorrow morning. - Flood stage is 13.0 feet. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. Most flood related deaths occur in automobiles. Do not attempt to cross water covered bridges, dips, or low water crossings. Never try to cross a flowing stream, even a small one, on foot. To escape rising water find another route over higher ground. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Special Weather Statement issued June 20 at 11:06AM CDT by NWS Jackson MS At 1106 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Taylorsville, or 11 miles southwest of Bay Springs, moving east at 30 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. This strong thunderstorm will be near... Soso and Stringer around 1110 AM CDT. Moss around 1115 AM CDT. Laurel around 1120 AM CDT. Vernon around 1125 AM CDT. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. High winds can bring down trees and large limbs resulting in serious injury or property damage. Exercise extreme caution when outdoors during such strong winds...and be especially aware of older trees.
