Northern Johnston County in central North Carolina... * Until 1100 PM EDT. * At 1027 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Garner, or 13 miles south of Raleigh, moving east at 35 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. * Locations impacted include... Raleigh, Garner, Clayton, Zebulon, Knightdale, Wendell, Emit, Lake Wheeler, Flowers, and Lake Benson. This includes the following highways... Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 302 and 314. Interstate 440 near Mile Marker 16. Interstate 540 between Mile Markers 24 and 24. NC Highway 264 near Mile Marker 20. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Movement was east at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Rocky Mount, Sanford, Smithfield, Nashville, Pittsboro, Louisburg, and Lillington. This includes the following highways... Interstate 95 between Mile Markers 154 and 127. Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 280 and 326. Interstate 440 between Mile Markers 1 and 16. Interstate 540 between Mile Markers 0 and 24. US 1 between Mile Markers 69 and 101. NC Highway 264 between Mile Markers 20 and 35. the Durham Freeway between Mile Markers 2 and 4. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. These thunderstorms are producing an excessive amount of deadly cloud to ground lightning. Seek shelter indoors and stay away from windows.
