Heat Advisory issued July 19 at 11:45AM EDT until July 19 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC * WHAT...Heat index values up to 108. * WHERE...The Triangle, southern Piedmont, Sandhills, northeast Piedmont, and Coastal Plain of central North Carolina. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. If you do not have air conditioning in your home or lack shelter, you can call 211 for assistance locating appropriate shelter from the heat.

Special Weather Statement issued July 19 at 5:58PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC At 557 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 6 miles northeast of Louisburg to near Butner. Movement was east at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Durham, Creedmoor, Louisburg, Wake Forest, Butner, Franklinton, Bunn, Youngsville, Stem, and Castalia. This includes the following highways... Interstate 85 between Mile Markers 178 and 194. the Durham Freeway near Mile Marker 10. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 800 PM EDT for central North Carolina.
