Marine Weather Statement issued June 14 at 9:46PM EDT by NWS Wakefield VA The areas affected include... Coastal waters from Chincoteague to Parramore Island VA out 20 NM... Coastal waters from Fenwick Island DE to Chincoteague VA out 20 NM... Coastal waters from Parramore Island to Cape Charles Light VA out 20 NM... Waters from Chincoteague VA to Parramore Island VA from 20 to 60 NM... Waters from Fenwick Island DE to Chintoteague VA from 20 to 60 NM... Waters from Parramore Island VA to Cape Charles Light VA from 20 to 60 NM... At 945 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots, heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning. These thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Wachapreague Inlet to 11 nm east of Ship Shoal Inlet, moving east at 40 knots. Locations impacted include... Wachapreague Inlet, Chincoteague Bay, Wachapreague Reef, Parking Lot, Assateague Beach, Blackfish Reef, Ship Shoal Inlet, Quinby Inlet, Great Machipongo Inlet, Sand Shoal Inlet, Chincoteague, Bone Wreck, Parramore Island, and 26 Mile Hill. Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, lightning strikes, and heavy downpours. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass. Intense lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects. Report severe weather to the Coast Guard or nearest law enforcement agency. They will relay your report to the National Weather Service forecast office.
