Wood County in northwestern West Virginia... * Until 845 PM EDT. * At 642 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Parkersburg, Belpre, Harrisville, Vienna, Mineralwells, Boaz, Lubeck, North Bend State Park, Washington, North Hills, Ellenboro, Cairo, Walker, Freeport, Greencastle, Petroleum, Waverly, Davisville, Nutter Farm and Schultz. This includes the following highways... Interstate 77 in West Virginia between mile markers 165 and 184. Route 50 in West Virginia between mile markers 1 and 36. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.

Air Quality Alert issued July 18 at 7:05AM EDT by NWS Charleston WV West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection - Air Quality Division has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Fine Particulates for West Virgina until midnight EDT tonight. Elevated fine particulate matter levels are anticipated to drop as the day goes on today. A code Orange air quality alert means members of sensitive groups may experience health effects. The general public is less likely to be affected, but sensitive groups should take additional precautions. These groups include children, the elderly, and people suffering from asthma, heart disease, or other lung diseases. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding outdoor exercise or strenuous activity. Check the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency`s www.AirNow.gov website for current air monitor readings.
