Little Sioux River at Cherokee affecting Cherokee County. * WHAT...Major flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Big Sioux River at Akron. * WHEN...From this morning until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 22.0 feet, Highway 48 begins to flood where the railroad tracks cross, and Iowa Highway 3 begins to flood on the east side of the river. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1:00 AM CDT Friday the stage was 15.5 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage this morning and continue rising to a crest of 22.0 feet early Monday morning. This river forecast will be heavily impacted by how much rain ultimately falls. - Flood stage is 16.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Widespread heavy rainfall continues.
