Flood Warning issued June 21 at 5:43AM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA ...The National Weather Service in Des Moines IA has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in Iowa... West Fork Des Moines River at Estherville affecting Emmet County. .These forecasts are highly dependent on forecast rainfall amounts on today and Saturday, therefore the crest values are conditional on the forecast rainfall occurring. * WHAT...High confidence in at least Minor Flood Stage. Major flooding is forecast, but is dependent on where the highest rainfall amounts accumulate. Therefore, confidence is lower for Major Flooding, at this time. * WHERE...The West Fork Des Moines River at Estherville, or from the Iowa-Minnesota border to near Wallingford. * WHEN...From this afternoon until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 10.0 feet, Extensive lowland flooding occurs particularly over the parkland areas near the river. At 14.5 feet, Water affects residences along W 1st St north and south of Iowa 9...and along Valley Dr. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 4:00 AM CDT Friday the stage was 9.2 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage this afternoon and continue rising to a crest of 14.5 feet early Sunday morning. It will then rise to 14.6 feet early Thursday afternoon. Additional rises are possible thereafter. - Flood stage is 10.0 feet. River forecasts include observed precipitation plus forecast precipitation until 7pm Sunday.

Flood Watch issued June 21 at 11:46AM CDT until June 22 at 1:00PM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA A moderate risk of heavy rainfall and flash flooding is forecast over northern Iowa later today and overnight. Storms will be redeveloping this afternoon, with the heaviest rainfall expected later this evening to early Saturday morning. Some uncertainty remains as to the exact axis of heaviest rainfall, but current indications are that the heaviest rainfall in north central Iowa will be generally between Highway 20 and the Iowa Minnesota border. If you live in or near the watch, please monitor the weather closely this afternoon and tonight. Review flooding safety plans now and be prepared if you must take action. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of north central and northwest Iowa, including the following counties, in north central Iowa, Cerro Gordo, Hancock, Kossuth, Winnebago and Worth. In northwest Iowa, Emmet and Palo Alto. * WHEN...Through Saturday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Expected rainfall totals may exceed 4 to 7 inches in some areas with locally higher amounts are possible. Rapid rises in creeks, streams and urban flooding will be possible. Field flooding and washed out county roads will also be possible. Rainfall rates may approach 2 inches per hour in the heavier storms. Nighttime flooding is especially dangerous due to the lack of light and ability to see flooding impacts.
