West Fork Des Moines River at Estherville affecting Emmet County. * WHAT...Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast. This exceeds the flood of record. * WHERE...The West Fork Des Moines River at Estherville, or from the Iowa-Minnesota border to near Wallingford. * WHEN...Until further notice. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 3:30 PM CDT Sunday the stage was 18.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 18.1 feet this evening. - Flood stage is 10.0 feet. - Flood History...This crest exceeds a previous crest of 17.7 feet on 04/12/1969. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. For the latest river and stream observations and forecasts refer to weather.gov/desmoines/water.
