Extreme Heat Warning issued June 28 at 3:14PM CDT until June 30 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Quad Cities IA IL * WHAT...Dangerously hot and humid conditions with multiple days of heat index values of 100 to 110 expected, along with nighttime lows not falling below the mid 70s. * WHERE...Portions of north central and northwest Illinois and east central and northeast Iowa. * WHEN...From noon Monday to 9 PM CDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There is increasing likelihood that extreme heat will persist through midweek and may last into late week. Thunderstorms and associated clouds may interrupt the heat at times late in the week. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Special Weather Statement issued June 28 at 3:52PM CDT by NWS Quad Cities IA IL A period of strong southeast winds will continue into late afternoon as rain and thunderstorms move out of the region. This will bring wind gusts up to 45 mph, which could damage loose objects and cause tree branches to fall. In addition, driving on may be difficult due to the cross winds.
