Flood Warning issued May 21 at 2:51PM CDT until May 21 at 6:00PM CDT by NWS Omaha/Valley NE * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring, and is expected to continue through the afternoon. * WHERE...Portions of southwest Iowa, including the following counties, Harrison, Pottawattamie and Shelby and Nebraska, including the following counties, Burt, Butler, Colfax, Dodge, Douglas, Saunders and Washington. * WHEN...Until 600 PM CDT. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems. Please avoid any flooded roadways. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 249 PM CDT, emergency management, trained spotters, and the public reported very heavy rainfall across the warned area early this morning. Between 3 and 7 inches of rain have fallen over much of the warned area, with some locations receiving 8 inches or more. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Omaha, northern Council Bluffs, Fremont, Blair, Harlan, Wahoo, David City, Tekamah, Bennington, Boys Town, Elkhorn, Carter Lake, Missouri Valley, Valley, Logan, Avoca, Arlington, North Bend, Yutan and Underwood. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
