Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued June 16 at 5:37PM CDT until June 16 at 5:45PM CDT by NWS Chicago IL At 535 PM CDT, strong to severe thunderstorm outflow winds were located along a line extending from near Winthrop Harbor to near Evanston to Merrionette Park to near Manhattan, moving east at 40 mph. This strong surge of outflow winds will produce gusts of 50 to locally 60 mph, strong enough to down some trees and powerlines. These strong winds will be accompanied by little or no rain. Do not wait for lightning, thunder, or rain to seek shelter. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. These severe storms will be near... Chicago, Tinley Park, Roseland, Bridgeport, Englewood, Chicago Loop, South Shore, Oak Forest, Harvey, and Blue Island around 540 PM CDT. Other locations impacted by these severe thunderstorms include Mettawa, Preston Heights, West Lawn, Forest Glen, Orland Hills, West Garfield Park, Oakland, West Elsdon, Beverly, and Lower West Side. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Wind damage with these storms will occur before any rain or lightning. Do not wait for the sound of thunder before taking cover. SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows.

Air Quality Alert issued June 16 at 5:28PM CDT by NWS Chicago IL The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has determined that an Air Pollution Action Day will be declared for the greater Chicago Metropolitan Area and is in effect unitl midnight CDT Monday night. An Air Pollution Action Day is declared when weather conditions are such that widespread ozone and or particulate levels are expected to be at or above the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category of the air quality index for multiple days. Active children and adults, especially people with pulmonary or respiratory disease such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor activity. Area residents are urged to reduce pollution levels. Special Weather Statement issued June 16 at 4:07PM CDT by NWS Chicago IL Strong west winds with gusts as high as 50 mph will move across the greater Chicago metropolitan area over the next few hours as a complex of thunderstorms moves across northern Illinois. The winds may begin well before rain arrives, and continue for greater than 30 minutes at any given location. In addition, locally stronger winds in excess of 60 mph may occur where thunderstorms are strongest of intensify. In these situations, Severe Thunderstorm Warnings will be issued. Consider moving indoors until the gusty winds and thunderstorms pass.
