Little Calumet River at Munster (Hohman Avenue) affecting Lake IN and Cook Counties. For the Little Calumet River...including South Holland, Munster (Hohman Avenue)...Minor flooding is forecast. * WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Little Calumet River from IN-912 in Hammond downstream to confluence with Thorn Creek in South Holland, including the Munster (Hohman Avenue) gauge. * WHEN...From this afternoon to tomorrow evening. * IMPACTS...At 12.5 feet, Most areas outside of the levee-protected area are inundated in Hammond and Munster. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 4:00 PM CDT Wednesday the stage was 10.3 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to crest of near 13 feet late this evening. - Flood stage is 12.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood A Flood Warning means water levels above flood stage are imminent or may already be occurring. Persons along rivers and streams in the warned area should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. These forecasts are based on observed precipitation as well as forecast precipitation 24 hours into the future. Flash Flood Warning issued June 17 at 5:49PM CDT until June 17 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Chicago IL At 549 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated that rain had ended across the warned area. According to radar and automated gauges, up to 2 inches of rain fell. Recent traffic reports indicated lingering standing water on some roadways. HAZARD...Flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Rapid-onset flooding of creeks, streams, drainage ditches, streets, underpasses, low-lying areas, and other poor drainage areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Hammond, Gary, Tinley Park, Calumet City, Portage, Merrillville, Chicago Heights, East Chicago, Schererville, Hobart, Lansing, Oak Forest, Harvey, Highland, Munster, Dolton, Park Forest, Homewood, Matteson and Frankfort. A Flash Flood Warning means rapid-onset flooding is imminent or may already be occurring. Persons along creeks, drainage ditches, and other waterways should take immediate precautions to protect life and property.
