Marine Weather Statement issued May 8 at 9:12AM EDT by NWS Upton NY A Marine Weather Statement has been issued for the following areas... Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point NY out 40 NM... Eastern Long Island Sound... Peconic and Gardiners Bays... Long Island South Shore Bays... At 911 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots, small hail, and lightning. These thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 12 nm northwest of Essex Village to near Moriches Bay to 16 nm east of Buoy 44025, moving east at 45 knots. Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass.

Special Weather Statement issued May 8 at 9:10AM EDT by NWS Upton NY At 909 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 9 miles northwest of Mattituck to Manorville to 6 miles south of Mastic Beach. Movement was east at 50 mph. HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Riverhead, Southold, Manorville, Center Moriches, Mattituck, Southampton, Westhampton, Sag Harbor, Bridgehampton, Plum Island, Gardiners Island, Mastic Beach, Calverton, Noyack, and Shelter Island. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
