Southwestern Northampton County in eastern Pennsylvania... * Until 730 PM EDT. * At 627 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Jim Thorpe to Tuscarora to Seltzer to near Kulpmont, moving east at 30 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines is possible. * Locations impacted include... Allentown, Easton, Lehighton, Bethlehem, Forks, Northampton, Wilson, Nazareth, Palmerton, Kutztown, Jim Thorpe, Hamburg, Slatington, Fleetwood, Bath, Walnutport, Topton, Shoemakersville, Steuben, and Lyons. This includes the following highways... Northeast Extension between mile markers 54 and 78. Interstate 78 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 26 and 58. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. In addition to damaging winds, frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. Locations impacted include... Lehighton, Mount Pocono, Tobyhanna, Palmerton, Jim Thorpe, Nesquehoning, Weatherly, Henryville, Brodheadsville, New Mahoning, Pocono Pines, Gilbert, Pocono Raceway, Lake Harmony, Skytop, Tannersville, Mountainhome, Alpine Mountain, Long Pond, and Albrightsville. This includes the following highways... Northeast Extension between mile markers 72 and 92. Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 284 and 306. Extreme Heat Warning issued July 3 at 1:40PM EDT until July 4 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Mount Holly NJ * WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values between 100 and 108 degrees expected at lower elevations each day. Heat index values up to 100 degrees expected across the Pocono Plateau. * WHERE...Carbon and Monroe Counties. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Very warm low temperatures in the low to mid 70s at night will not offer much relief from the heat. This combined with multiple days of near record breaking temperatures will exacerbate the impacts from the heat and humidity. The hottest conditions are expected to occur through today, however dangerous heat will continue through Saturday. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. If you do not have air conditioning in your home or lack shelter, you can call 211 or visit your county or state health department website for assistance locating appropriate shelter from the heat.
