Red Flag Warning issued June 28 at 5:59AM MDT until June 28 at 8:00PM MDT by NWS El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa NM ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR TODAY AND SUNDAY... An upper level trough digging into the Great Basin will bring breezy west to southwest winds to the Gila National Forest and the Southern New Mexico Deserts again today. These winds will range from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts 35 to 40 mph, strongest along east-facing slopes in southwestern New Mexico. Minimum RH values will drop into the teens, while fuels remain very dry, with ERCs ranging from the 80th to 90th percentile. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zone 110 Southwest Mountains/Gila NF/Apache NF/GLZ, Fire Weather Zone 111 Southwest Deserts and Lowlands/Las Cruces BLM/GLZ and Fire Weather Zone 112 South Central Lowlands and Southern Rio Grande Valley/BLM/GLZ. * TIMING...This morning through Sunday evening. * WINDS...Southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 10 to 15 percent in the lowlands, and 14 to 19 percent in higher elevations. * TEMPERATURES...Up to 100 in the lowlands, with lower 80s in the higher elevations. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
