severe thunderstorm warning in effect At 8:46 p.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts and up to nickel size hail. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 11 kilometres south of Killaloe to 8 kilometres north of Buckhorn to Kettleby, moving east at 70 km/h. Hazards: Up to 120 km/h wind gusts Up to quarter size hail Risk of a tornado Locations impacted include: Newmarket, Lindsay, Uxbridge, Port Perry, Apsley, Bancroft, Emily, Jackson Creek, Westmount, Downey, Edmison Heights, Auburn Mills, Nassau, Trent, Donwood, Sunderland, Scugog, Janetville, Omemee and Emily Provincial Park. ### Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Discussion: Severe thunderstorms will continue to track through the region this evening. ### This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Tornado watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can.
