A Code Orange Air Quality Alert for Ozone has been issued for the Louisville Metro Area. Members of sensitive groups may experience health effects. The general public is not likely to be affected. Sensitive groups include the elderly...children...persons with asthma or other breathing problems...and persons with lung and heart disease. People in these groups are advised to limit their outdoor activities to reduce their exposure to ozone and particulate pollution. Special Weather Statement issued June 21 at 3:12AM EDT by NWS Louisville KY The combination of near-record high temperatures and ongoing humidity will result in peak heat index values around 100 degrees this afternoon and early evening across southern Indiana and central Kentucky. It is recommended to drink plenty of water, stay cool during the hottest part of the day, and limit sun exposure. Special attention should be given to those most vulnerable to the heat, like children and the elderly.
