Flash Flood Warning issued July 21 at 3:58PM EDT until July 21 at 6:45PM EDT by NWS Upton NY At 358 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Yonkers, New Rochelle, White Plains, Mott Haven, East Tremont, Port Chester, Rye, Tarrytown, Dobbs Ferry, Laguardia Airport, Harlem, Greenwich, Riverdale, Co-op City, Fort Lee, Harrison, Englewood, Scarsdale, Bronxville and Hawthorne. Move to higher ground now! This is a dangerous and life-threatening situation. Do not attempt to travel unless you are fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots. If you are in a basement, be prepared to move to a higher floor.

Flood Watch issued July 21 at 9:51AM EDT until July 22 at 2:00AM EDT by NWS Upton NY * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of southern Connecticut, including the following areas, Northern Fairfield, Northern New Haven and Southern Fairfield and southeast New York, including the following areas, Northern Westchester, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Southern Westchester. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Multiple rounds of heavy downpours and thunderstorms are expected this morning into tonight. Averaged rainfall totals will be between 1 and 2 inches, with localized swaths of 3 to 4 inches possible.
