Little Sioux River at Cherokee affecting Cherokee County. * WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Rock River at Rock Valley. * WHEN...From Saturday morning to Tuesday morning. * IMPACTS...At 16.0 feet, significant amounts of agricultural lands are flooded, and some rural roads are also threatened by high water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1:00 AM CDT Friday the stage was 13.4 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage tomorrow morning to a crest of 16.6 feet tomorrow evening. It will then fall below flood stage Monday morning. This river forecast will be heavily impacted by how much rain ultimately falls. - Flood stage is 16.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Northern Yankton County in southeastern South Dakota... * Until 930 AM CDT Friday. * At 229 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Beresford, Rock Valley, Hull, Centerville, Irene, Hudson, Mayfield and Fairview. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
